President Hakainde Hichilema has extended Zambia’s appreciation to Dr. Walid Hassan, Ambassador of the State of Palestine and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, following his farewell courtesy call marking the end of his tour of duty in Zambia.
Hichilema noted that Zambia and the State of Palestine share a long-standing relationship built on shared values and solidarity. This bond, he said, was forged by the nations’ founding leaders, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and Chairman Yasser Arafat.
Addressing the current conflict in Gaza, the President expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and stressed that instability in one part of the world affects all nations.
“We urge all parties to pursue dialogue as the only path to a just and lasting peace,” Hichilema said.
The President thanked Dr. Hassan for his service and contributions to strengthening bilateral ties. He conveyed best wishes as the ambassador begins the next chapter of his diplomatic career.
