Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema hosted a high-level working session with a delegation from PowerChina International Group Limited, led by Board Director and President Mr. Tang Yuhua. The meeting provided a comprehensive update on the progress of key infrastructure and development projects PowerChina is undertaking in Zambia across critical sectors such as water resources, energy, and agriculture.
The session marked a significant step in cementing the partnership between Zambia and PowerChina, following President Hichilema’s visit to the company’s headquarters during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing. According to the President, the strategic engagements initiated during that visit are now translating into actionable results on Zambian soil.
“We received a progress report on PowerChina’s operations in Zambia, including the implementation status of projects in water resources, power, and agriculture, being carried out in collaboration with various government ministries,” President Hichilema stated.
PowerChina, a global powerhouse in infrastructure development, has been instrumental in supporting Zambia’s efforts to boost its economic resilience and uplift communities through sustainable infrastructure. The ongoing projects are expected to improve water access, expand the national power grid, and enhance agricultural productivity—critical areas identified in Zambia’s development agenda.
President Hichilema expressed his satisfaction with the pace of collaboration and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure that the partnership yields tangible benefits for the Zambian people.
“We are pleased to note that our visit to the PowerChina Headquarters during the 2024 FOCAC in Beijing is already bearing fruit. We look forward to deepening this partnership further, as we work together to deliver tangible development outcomes that improve the lives of our people and strengthen the bond between our nations,” he added.
The session ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to driving progress through cooperation, innovation, and shared responsibility.
