President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) into a modern, financially sustainable, and technologically advanced media house following a productive engagement with the Corporation’s Board, led by Chairman Bishop Joseph Kazhila.

The meeting provided a comprehensive overview of ZNBC’s operational landscape, including both longstanding and current challenges faced by the national broadcaster. The Board shared well-considered recommendations aimed at repositioning ZNBC for long-term growth and greater public service impact.

President Hichilema emphasized the importance of ZNBC’s role as Zambia’s leading public broadcaster and noted the Corporation’s vast potential to create lasting value for the nation. He stressed that achieving this vision requires a shift in focus from consumption-driven practices to investment-oriented initiatives that drive innovation and sustainability.

“We believe ZNBC can fulfill its public service mandate while generating sustainable value by embracing prudent governance, transparent operations, and accountable management,” President Hichilema stated.

As ZNBC navigates the evolving digital media landscape, the President encouraged the Board and management to seize the opportunities offered by innovation and emerging technologies. These, he said, can help unlock new revenue streams, expand content reach, and better serve diverse audiences across the country.

“With strategic digital investments and strong leadership, ZNBC has the ability to become a beacon of excellence in public broadcasting, reflecting the aspirations of a dynamic and digitally empowered Zambia,” he added.

President Hichilema concluded by reaffirming the government’s support for ZNBC’s ongoing transformation journey, underscoring that a modern and credible national broadcaster is critical in strengthening democracy, promoting development, and fostering national unity.
