President Hakainde Hichilema Reaffirms Strong Zambia–US Relations in Meeting with Ambassador Michael Gonzales

In a demonstration of deepening diplomatic ties, President Hakainde Hichilema held a bilateral meeting with the United States Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Michael Gonzales, and his delegation. The engagement reaffirmed Zambia’s longstanding and cordial relations with the United States, built on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to meaningful collaboration.

During the high-level talks, President Hichilema expressed Zambia’s sincere appreciation for the continued partnership and open dialogue between the two nations. He also reiterated Zambia’s commitment to fostering trade and investment with the United States, emphasizing the importance of value addition, promoting local content, and attracting fairly priced, investable capital. These elements are central to building a vibrant economy that empowers local industries and supports long-term national development.

“Zambia is keen to deepen commercial ties with the United States, especially through joint ventures and partnerships that are mutually beneficial,” the President stated. “We aim to build a thriving economy where Zambian talent and resources are fully leveraged to create sustainable opportunities.”

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism for the future of Zambia–US relations. President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to open dialogue and continued collaboration with international allies who share Zambia’s vision of democratic governance, economic empowerment, and innovation.
