This morning, the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Shang Wang, and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to the office of the North Western Provincial Minister. The visit aimed to discuss potential economic investments in the region and foster stronger ties between China and Zambia.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including His Worship the Mayor of Solwezi, Mr. Remmy Kalepa, Solwezi Municipal Council Town Clerk Mr. Stanley Mbewe, North Western Province Permanent Secretary Col. Grandson Wishikoti Katambi (rtd.), Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Luckson Mulumbi, and Solwezi Central Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Stafford Mulusa.

During the discussions, the Chinese Deputy Ambassador expressed keen interest in key economic sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy, and transport. Among the notable announcements made by Mr. Wang were plans to construct a milling plant in Solwezi and establish a solar power plant in Kasempa, both set to commence by March.

Mr. Wang emphasized the need for more Chinese investors to engage in the province, highlighting how investments in these sectors would significantly contribute to Zambia’s GDP and promote economic growth.

Mayor Remmy Kalepa welcomed these initiatives, noting that the local authority is prepared to provide full support to investors to ensure the creation of employment opportunities for the local population. He further assured the delegation that the administration would take measures to protect investments in the district.

This visit underscores the growing interest in North Western Province as a hub for economic development. The proposed investments are expected to not only bolster the local economy but also strengthen Zambia’s ties with China.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to fostering partnerships that will drive sustainable development in the province.
