DEC Conducts Searches at Residences of Former ZAMMSA Executives Amid Ongoing Investigation

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) yesterday conducted searches at the residences of former Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) Director General Victor Nyasulu and former pipeline manager Nalishebo Siyandi. These searches are part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities at ZAMMSA, according to the Commission.

Victor Nyasulu’s tenure as ZAMMSA Director General came to an abrupt end following the discovery of 61 containers of government-procured drugs and medical supplies stranded at a private warehouse, J&J. The incident raised serious questions about the agency’s operations and led to intensified scrutiny of its leadership.

During the search at Nyasulu’s residence, eyewitnesses reported that DEC officers seized ZAMMSA-related documents. Following the search, Nyasulu was summoned to DEC offices, where he was reportedly asked to declare his income spanning the past 27 years.

Similarly, DEC officers conducted a search at the home of Nalishebo Siyandi, the former pipeline manager. Although specific details about the outcome of the search at Siyandi’s residence remain unclear, sources indicate that it is connected to broader investigations into ZAMMSA’s operations and procurement practices.

The DEC has not yet issued a detailed statement on the findings or progress of the investigations. However, the searches and ongoing probes highlight the government’s commitment to addressing potential irregularities within critical institutions like ZAMMSA.

The public is closely watching these developments, as the issue of mismanagement of medical supplies touches on matters of public health and governance. Observers expect the DEC to provide further updates as the investigations unfold.
