His Excellency Brigadier General Wilson Tembo (Rtd) has officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia to the Republic of Zimbabwe. The ceremony took place at State House in Harare and marked another milestone in the strong diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring nations.

Following the formal presentation, Ambassador Tembo and President Mnangagwa held a closed-door meeting attended by senior government officials from both Zambia and Zimbabwe. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest and cooperation, reinforcing the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Brig. Gen. Tembo expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for accepting his appointment and for maintaining warm bilateral relations between the two countries. He reaffirmed his commitment, along with that of President Hakainde Hichilema, to strengthen collaboration in strategic sectors including trade, tourism, agriculture, and energy. He emphasized Zambia’s readiness to work closely with Zimbabwe to unlock economic opportunities that benefit both nations.

In his remarks, President Mnangagwa reiterated Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation anchored on mutual respect and shared prosperity. He described Zambia and Zimbabwe as “Siamese twins,” highlighting the deep historical, cultural, and economic bonds that unite the two nations. The President also shared a personal reflection, recalling his early years in Mumbwa, Central Province of Zambia, where he attended primary school, and his later studies at the University of Zambia, where he earned a degree in law before Zambia’s independence.

The exchange underscored the strong and enduring partnership between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in regional integration, infrastructure development, and energy connectivity, particularly through shared initiatives such as the Zambezi River Authority and cross-border trade programs.

Ambassador Tembo’s accreditation symbolizes Zambia’s ongoing commitment to fostering closer relations with its southern neighbour. The event also reaffirmed both countries’ shared goal of promoting peace, economic stability, and prosperity within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

With the presentation of credentials complete, Ambassador Tembo is expected to focus on deepening diplomatic engagement, facilitating trade and investment, and advancing initiatives that strengthen people-to-people connections between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
