Vivo Energy Zambia has committed K1.2 million towards next month’s North vs South Golf Tournament, more than doubling last year’s K500,000 sponsorship. The announcement was made yesterday during the launch of the 2025 edition at Lusaka Golf Club.

Vivo Energy Zambia managing director, Edward Walugembe, said the tournament continues to grow in scale and impact. He described this year’s event as “bigger, bolder and better,” stressing that sports are an integral part of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy.

“Sports unite communities, create opportunities and foster excellence. Golf, in particular, demands discipline, focus and perseverance – values we believe are critical in nation-building,” Walugembe said. He added that the 2025 tournament has been structured to engage both players and spectators more actively.

Walugembe also expressed appreciation for the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU), highlighting its consistent support since the inception of the event. “While the Lusaka Golf Club remains the proud host and organiser of this year’s competition, the union has been with us from the very beginning, offering support, guidance and recognition for our players. Their role has been vital and we value their presence in strengthening this tournament and ensuring it reflects the best standards of Zambian golf,” he said.

ZGU president Greg Lubesha praised Vivo Energy Zambia for its significant financial backing, noting that the contribution directly supports the growth of golf in the country. “Golf teaches patience, resilience and sportsmanship. Beyond that, golf courses are excellent platforms for marketing. Golfers are the best buyers and promoters, which makes tournaments like this a win for both sport and business,” Lubesha said.

Organising committee chairperson Willie Kasempa, now serving his second year in the role, thanked ZGU for their trust and Vivo Energy Zambia for their continued confidence. He also acknowledged other sponsors, including Discover Insurance Company, Ndeke Hotel, EYZ Zambia, KPMG, Stanbic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and Professional Insurance Corporation of Zambia.

The 2025 North vs South Golf Tournament will run over two days, beginning on October 17, and will feature 20 of the best golfers from each region. The event is expected to attract golf enthusiasts, corporate partners, and sports fans, cementing its place as one of Zambia’s most anticipated sporting competitions.
