The National Assembly of Zambia has confirmed that President Hakainde Hichilema will officially open the Fifth Session of the Thirteenth National Assembly on Friday, September 12, 2025. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Senior Media Liaison Officer Nshamba Muzungu.
The President’s address will set the stage for the presentation of the National Budget, scheduled for September 26, 2025. Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane will present the budget, which is expected to support the policy directives outlined by the President in his address.
Muzungu emphasized that the event marks a formal and significant parliamentary session. “The Acting Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia, Mrs Loveness Maambo Mayaka, would like to inform the public that the Ceremonial Opening of the Fifth Session of the Thirteenth National Assembly by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, will take place as scheduled,” he stated.
The Fifth Session will provide a platform for government officials to communicate key policy priorities, economic strategies, and legislative agendas to members of parliament and the public. Analysts note that the session will be closely watched, as it will reflect the government’s focus on economic recovery, social development, and governance reforms.
The National Budget presentation on September 26 will follow the President’s address, highlighting government revenue and expenditure plans. It will outline strategies to support economic growth, infrastructure development, and public service delivery.
The opening of the Fifth Session underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and parliamentary processes. Citizens and stakeholders are encouraged to follow proceedings as the government outlines its priorities for the upcoming session.
