Zambian Soldier Sergeant Alick Banda Dies on UN Peacekeeping Mission in Central African Republic

Zambia has mourned the loss of Sergeant Alick Banda, who died while serving on an international peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, the Ministry of Defence confirmed. The soldier was deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

In a statement on Friday, Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma described Sergeant Banda as disciplined and dedicated. He noted that the soldier’s death occurred during official operations aimed at stabilising conflict-affected areas and protecting civilians.

Sergeant Banda was part of a Zambian contingent assigned to peacekeeping duties under Zambia’s commitment to international security through the United Nations. Zambia has a long history of contributing troops to UN missions, particularly across Africa, supporting efforts to maintain peace and stability in conflict zones.

Minister Lufuma conveyed condolences to Sergeant Banda’s family on behalf of the government and the people of Zambia. He assured that the Zambia Army and the Ministry of Defence would provide full support to the family during their period of mourning.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that arrangements are in progress to repatriate Sergeant Banda’s remains following military protocols and UN procedures. Burial details will be announced after consultations with the family and relevant authorities are concluded.

Sergeant Banda’s death is part of the ongoing sacrifices made by Zambian soldiers serving in international peacekeeping missions.
