FAZ Women’s Representative Colonel Priscilla Katoba has assured that the Copper Queens will be fully prepared ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 in Morocco. Speaking at the MET Sports Zambia Sports Complex, Katoba emphasized that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will ensure the team receives top-tier preparation before departing for the tournament. She urged players to take the locally organized training camp seriously, describing it as the foundation for the entire WAFCON build-up.
Katoba highlighted FAZ’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned, aiming to bring the team’s readiness to near perfection. “We need to go and get it. So, it all starts from this particular activity of preparation. We are behind you; we are doing everything possible for your preparations to be somewhere, if not 100 percent, at least 90 or 98 percent. We will be with you all the way,” she said. The squad is encouraged to adopt a winning mentality under their new motto, “Copper to Gold,” as they prepare to face tough competition.
Acting Deputy FAZ General Secretary Iva Lengwe expressed confidence that the preparations will put the Copper Queens in excellent shape for the tournament. Defender Racheal Nachula also remains optimistic despite being drawn in a challenging group with Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi. Nachula highlighted the importance of hard work, stating the team is determined to overturn previous defeats, especially against Nigeria, who eliminated them in the last WAFCON. She added that the mix of experienced players and new call-ups provides balance, combining leadership with fresh energy.
Playmaker Mercy Chipasula expressed excitement about the tournament, noting her ambition to earn a senior World Cup appearance after previously featuring at Under-17 level. She said hard work has brought her this far, and the WAFCON stage presents an opportunity to gain more experience against top African teams. With FAZ’s strong support and focused preparations, the Copper Queens aim to make a significant impact at WAFCON 2026.
