With just over two months remaining before the 2025 World Athletics Championships begin in Tokyo, Japan, the spotlight is firmly on Zambia’s 400m sensation, Muzala Samukonga. As anticipation builds, Zambia Athletics (ZA) is placing its full support behind the young sprinter, believing he holds the nation’s strongest chance at a podium finish.

Speaking with optimism and national pride, Zambia Athletics President Major Bernard Bwalya confirmed that Samukonga’s preparations are on track and his mindset is focused. “I wish to take this opportunity to assure the nation that Muzala Samukonga is ready,” Bwalya stated. “He is focused, motivated, and determined to represent Zambia with honour. His primary goal at this moment is to bring pride to our great nation, and I am confident that he has the potential to do just that.”

Samukonga has already etched his name in Zambian athletics history. Known for his explosive speed and calm composure under pressure, the 21-year-old athlete has continued to rise through the international ranks. His past performances, including his gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, have solidified his reputation as a world-class competitor.

Major Bwalya recently held a strategic meeting with Samukonga’s coaching and support team to review training progress, recovery routines, and competition readiness. According to the ZA president, the discussions focused on fine-tuning the athlete’s performance strategy and ensuring that all resources are in place to support a successful campaign in Tokyo.

“Muzala’s training regimen has been exceptional. He is in peak physical condition and mentally stronger than ever. We’re making sure nothing is left to chance as we head to the global stage,” Bwalya added.

For Zambia, which has long sought to make a lasting mark in global track and field, Samukonga’s run in Tokyo could be a defining moment. His qualification for the World Championships has already galvanized the nation, with fans and officials uniting in their support.

The 2025 World Athletics Championships are scheduled to run from 13–21 September, drawing elite athletes from across the globe. For Zambia, all eyes will be on lane 4 — and on Muzala Samukonga — as the nation dares to dream of a world medal.

As the countdown begins, one thing is clear: Zambia’s hopes are high, its support unwavering, and its belief in Muzala Samukonga stronger than ever.
