Zambia’s COSAFA Cup Assistant Coach Beston Chambeshi says his technical bench is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the Chipolopolo are fully prepared to face Botswana in their next Group D fixture. The must-win clash is scheduled for June 11 at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Speaking ahead of the match, Chambeshi expressed confidence that the squad is ready and determined to bounce back following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Comoros in their tournament opener. With Chipolopolo’s hopes of progressing to the semi-finals now hanging in the balance, Chambeshi emphasised that focus and hard work have been the team’s top priorities in training.
“We know what is at stake in this game,” Chambeshi said. “After the loss to Comoros, we have worked hard to correct our mistakes and improve our game plan. The boys are determined, and we as the technical bench are making sure they are fully prepared mentally and physically to face Botswana.”
Zambia’s match against Botswana is seen as a defining moment in their COSAFA Cup campaign. A win would revive Chipolopolo’s semi-final hopes, while anything less could see them exit the tournament at the group stage. Chambeshi highlighted the importance of approaching the match with intensity and discipline.
“Botswana is a strong team and will not be easy to beat,” he added. “But we have analysed their strengths and weaknesses, and our preparations are tailored towards giving us the best chance to win. The team spirit is high, and the players understand the significance of this match.”
The COSAFA Cup, currently underway in Bloemfontein, South Africa, has drawn competitive teams from across the Southern African region. For Zambia, a nation with a proud footballing tradition, advancing beyond the group stages remains a key objective.
Chambeshi also called on Chipolopolo supporters to rally behind the team during this crucial period. “We value the support of our fans, both here in South Africa and back home in Zambia. Their encouragement means a lot to the players. We are going to fight hard and do everything possible to make them proud.”
As the countdown to the decisive Group D encounter continues, all eyes will be on the Chipolopolo to see if they can rise to the challenge and keep their COSAFA Cup ambitions alive.
