The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has issued a stern warning to the public against enrolling in four institutions that are currently operating illegally in Zambia. According to HEA Corporate Communications Officer Birbal Musoba, the affected institutions include Chankanondo University, Oasis Medical University College, Yesbud University, and ZIDS College.

The warning comes after the HEA recently conducted surveillance inspections across Lusaka, Central, and Copperbelt provinces. The inspections revealed that the named institutions are offering higher education services without proper registration as required by law.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Musoba stressed that operating a higher education institution without registration is a serious violation of the Higher Education Act. He warned that individuals or entities found guilty of such offenses are liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding one million penalty units, a prison sentence not exceeding three years, or both.

Musoba further urged prospective students and parents to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling to ensure the legitimacy and recognition of their qualifications. He emphasized that students who enroll in unregistered institutions risk wasting both time and resources, as any certificates issued by such entities are not recognized by the Ministry of Education or any other legitimate authority.

The HEA reiterated its commitment to upholding quality standards in Zambia’s higher education sector. The Authority also called on members of the public to report any suspicious or unregistered institutions operating in their communities.

As Zambia continues to expand its higher education landscape, authorities are ramping up efforts to protect students from academic fraud and ensure that institutions adhere to national standards. The HEA has promised to maintain regular inspections and take legal action against institutions that defy the law.

The public is advised to consult the official HEA website or visit the Authority’s offices for a list of all registered and accredited higher education institutions in the country.
