The Government of the Republic of Zambia has released K30 million to facilitate the payment of retirees from the Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST), marking a significant step toward addressing longstanding dues owed to former employees.

In an official statement issued on Monday, ZAMPOST confirmed that the funds represent the second phase of payments aimed at clearing outstanding retirement packages. This development is expected to bring relief to hundreds of retirees who have been waiting for years to receive their rightful entitlements.

ZAMPOST Public Relations Officer Mthandazo Masango described the disbursement as a critical financial intervention and a clear demonstration of government’s ongoing commitment to upholding the dignity and welfare of public service workers. He acknowledged the vital role that retirees played in building and sustaining the postal service throughout the country.

“The Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) wishes to inform the public and all stakeholders that the Government of the Republic of Zambia has released K30,000,000 to facilitate the payment of retirees,” Masango said. “This disbursement represents the second phase of payments aimed at clearing outstanding dues owed to former employees who dedicated their lives to serving the nation.”

The move follows an earlier phase of payments that signaled the beginning of efforts to systematically address arrears owed to former ZAMPOST staff. The funds will be disbursed directly to verified retirees based on updated records and verified claims to ensure transparency and fairness in the process.

ZAMPOST has urged retirees and stakeholders to remain patient as the payment process unfolds and assured them that all eligible individuals will be paid in accordance with the set schedule and procedures. The corporation also reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the public informed throughout the exercise.

This second phase of payments has been widely welcomed as a positive step in restoring trust and fulfilling the government’s promise to prioritize the welfare of its former employees. It underscores a broader national effort to ensure that all retired public workers are treated with the respect and recognition they deserve.

As the process continues, both ZAMPOST and the Ministry of Finance are expected to work closely to monitor progress and address any challenges that may arise, with a focus on efficiency, accountability, and compassion.
