National futsal team head coach Andrea Cristoforetti has lauded the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Premier Futsal League (PFL) for their pivotal role in organizing a high-intensity training camp that he believes could mark a turning point for Zambian futsal. The intensive week-long camp, held from May 23 to May 30, featured world-renowned Spanish national futsal team assistant coach José Enrique Ibáñez Ramos, popularly known in global futsal circles as “Chicho.”

Cristoforetti described the camp as a critical milestone in Zambia’s ambition to develop a competitive and sustainable futsal programme. “This is more than just a camp—it’s the beginning of a new era,” he said. “Gratitude to the team behind the vision. As we wrap up this remarkable chapter for Zambian futsal, we extend our deepest thanks to the people working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen.”

The training sessions focused on elite player development, tactical awareness, and international best practices—elements Cristoforetti believes are essential for Zambia to close the gap with top-tier futsal nations. Chicho’s involvement brought high-level expertise and inspiration to both players and coaches, offering insights shaped by his experience with one of the world’s top futsal teams.

“Having someone of Chicho’s calibre working directly with our squad is a huge boost—not just for the players, but for the entire technical team,” said Cristoforetti. “His knowledge, intensity, and approach to the game have reignited belief in what we can achieve as a nation in this sport.”

The coach also commended FAZ and PFL for their commitment to long-term development, stating that such initiatives are vital for building a pipeline of talent and nurturing a professional futsal culture in Zambia. He noted that the cooperation between governing bodies and the technical bench sets a strong foundation for future success.

“Futsal in Zambia is gaining momentum, and this camp is proof that with the right support, vision, and investment, we can reach new heights,” he added.

The Premier Futsal League, which has been instrumental in providing consistent competition and exposure for players, was also praised for its role in elevating the sport. The synergy between grassroots efforts and elite coaching is being seen as a blueprint for sustained national progress.

With the national team now more motivated and better equipped, the focus shifts to future international competitions. Cristoforetti remains optimistic that Zambia can begin to make its mark on the global futsal stage, driven by structured training, talent identification, and strategic planning.

“This is just the beginning,” he said. “We’re laying the groundwork for something special—something that the next generation of players and fans can be proud of.”

As Zambian futsal continues to grow in popularity and performance, initiatives like this camp underscore the country’s intent to rise in the ranks of global futsal powerhouses.
