Kasenengwa, Eastern Province — The Republican Progressive Party (RPP) has praised the Cash for Work programme for its transformative impact on communities in Kasenengwa District, describing it as a life-changing initiative that is restoring livelihoods, dignity, and hope.

As a key UPND Alliance partner, the RPP commended President Hakainde Hichilema for his compassionate and people-centered leadership, which has made this programme a beacon of relief for many rural households facing economic hardship.

The Cash for Work initiative, implemented in various parts of Eastern Province, empowers community members to actively participate in local development efforts. In Kasenengwa, beneficiaries have been engaged in repairing roads, maintaining schools, and improving health facilities, all while earning wages that help them meet their families’ basic needs.

“After just 10 days of work, participants receive payment that allows them to buy food, support their children, and invest in small-scale farming,” said the RPP in a statement. “This timely intervention has been life-saving for many families, especially during periods of hunger and uncertainty.”

The programme goes beyond emergency support. It is stimulating agricultural productivity, with many residents using their earnings to purchase fertilizer, seeds, and hire labour, leading to an increase in local food production. This dual benefit—employment and farming support—is driving sustainable development in Kasenengwa and beyond.

RPP leaders in the province noted that the initiative has restored a sense of purpose and dignity among participants, particularly in rural areas where job opportunities are often scarce.

“The Cash for Work programme is not just an economic intervention; it is a symbol of opportunity. It brings hope where there was despair and fosters a culture of community development and self-reliance,” the statement continued.

The RPP has called for the continuation and expansion of the programme to other parts of the country, emphasizing its potential to uplift vulnerable communities and stimulate grassroots development.

President Hichilema’s leadership, according to the RPP, continues to demonstrate a deep understanding of the struggles of ordinary Zambians. His administration’s efforts to implement targeted and responsive initiatives like Cash for Work are a testament to his commitment to inclusive development.

As Kasenengwa begins to witness the benefits of improved infrastructure, revived agriculture, and economic activity, the RPP remains confident that with sustained support, programmes like Cash for Work will become key drivers of rural transformation and national prosperity.
