This afternoon, Zambia welcomed Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, for a two-day working visit aimed at reinforcing diplomatic and developmental cooperation between the two Southern African nations.
President Hakainde Hichilema officially received President Nandi-Ndaitwah upon her arrival, emphasizing the long-standing relationship that Zambia and Namibia have nurtured over decades. “Beyond being neighbouring nations, Zambia and Namibia share deep-rooted ties of friendship, shaped by our shared history—including the support we offered to Namibian freedom fighters,” President Hichilema stated.
The visit marks President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s first official tour to Zambia since assuming office and underscores her commitment to enhancing regional cooperation. Discussions during her stay are expected to focus on trade facilitation, energy cooperation, infrastructure development, and cross-border security collaboration.
Zambia and Namibia enjoy strong historical and economic ties, with both countries playing strategic roles in the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Their shared vision for peace, development, and regional integration continues to drive bilateral initiatives, particularly in transportation, agriculture, and energy.
President Hichilema expressed his optimism about the outcomes of the visit, noting that it presents an opportunity to build on existing agreements and explore new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
“As we host President Nandi-Ndaitwah, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering unity and collaboration in the region,” he said. “This visit will further reinforce the strong bonds between our two countries for the benefit of our people.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s itinerary includes high-level talks, visits to strategic sites, and bilateral engagements with Zambian officials and stakeholders. The two leaders are expected to issue a joint communiqué at the end of the visit, outlining key resolutions and future areas of cooperation.
This historic visit not only cements the enduring friendship between Zambia and Namibia but also sets the tone for continued regional progress, unity, and prosperity.
