Minister of Labour and Social Security, Brenda Tambatamba, has emphasized the UPND government’s commitment to building a robust and revolutionary foundation for economic recovery, job creation, and inclusive growth in Zambia. Speaking at the inauguration meeting of the Boards of Directors for the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA), Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI), and the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board, Tambatamba reaffirmed the government’s focus on social protection and decent work.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, marked a significant step in reinforcing the country’s social security framework and promoting sustainable enterprises. Minister Tambatamba congratulated the newly appointed board members, highlighting the critical role they will play in shaping policies that support worker welfare and contribute to Zambia’s broader economic transformation agenda.

“From the onset, allow me to convey my congratulations on your well-deserved appointments on the boards of the three statutory entities under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. This ceremony marks a pivotal moment in our collective mission to strengthen social security, enhance worker welfare, and advance Zambia’s economic transformation agenda under the UPND government,” Minister Tambatamba stated.

She noted that these appointments come at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to promote decent work environments, expand social protection coverage, and support sustainable business growth across the country. These initiatives are vital in ensuring that economic recovery benefits all segments of society, especially vulnerable workers.

The Minister further stressed the importance of the boards’ oversight in ensuring effective management and governance of these statutory bodies. With strengthened leadership, NAPSA, OHSI, and the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board are expected to deliver improved services, increase social security coverage, and foster safer workplaces.

Minister Tambatamba’s remarks underscore the UPND administration’s strategic approach to tackling unemployment and driving inclusive economic development through institutional reforms and sound governance. The government’s proactive stance on social security and labor matters is seen as a cornerstone for sustainable progress and poverty reduction in Zambia.

As Zambia moves forward on its path to economic recovery, the strengthened leadership in key statutory bodies signals a renewed focus on protecting workers’ rights, enhancing social welfare, and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The appointment of these boards marks not only a procedural milestone but also a reaffirmation of the government’s dedication to ensuring that every Zambian benefits from economic growth through decent work and social protection.
