The Zambian government has successfully concluded bilateral negotiations with South Africa to facilitate the export of fresh avocado fruits, Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo has announced.
Speaking through Ministry Acting Permanent Secretary Mwendalubi Msoka during the launch of a partnership with the Lusaka Avocado Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, Mr. Mtolo stated that the ministry is working closely with avocado farmers to ensure compliance with the export conditions outlined in the agreement.
Boost for Small-Scale Farmers and Agribusiness
The Minister highlighted that the newly formed partnership aims to support small-scale farmers, providing them with opportunities to expand their businesses and contribute to economic growth. He emphasized that the initiative will play a crucial role in creating employment within the agribusiness sector.
With Zambia’s avocado industry gaining momentum, this agreement marks a significant step towards diversifying the country’s agricultural exports and strengthening trade ties with South Africa.
