The Zambia Police Service has revealed that a total of 326 road traffic accidents were recorded across the country during this year’s Easter Holiday, with 21 of them proving fatal and resulting in the loss of 23 lives.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Assistant Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi provided a detailed breakdown of the incidents. He disclosed that 43 of the accidents were classified as serious, leading to serious injuries for 81 individuals, while 61 were recorded as slight road traffic accidents.

Chilabi also compared this year’s statistics to those of 2024, where 24 fatal accidents claimed 32 lives during the same holiday period. While the number of fatal accidents decreased slightly in 2025, the figures still highlight ongoing concerns over road safety during festive seasons.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the primary causes of the accidents, but past trends have attributed such incidents to reckless driving, excessive speed, and failure to observe traffic rules.

The Zambia Police Service has urged motorists to remain vigilant and responsible on the roads to prevent further loss of life and injury, particularly during holidays when travel activity typically increases.
