Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele has expressed hope that the successful ceasefire negotiations in Goma will help restore peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). His remarks come amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the conflict-hit region through diplomatic and military cooperation.

Meanwhile, Namibian Defence Force Chief Air Marshal Martin Kambulu Pinehas has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Zambia. During a courtesy call on Lt Gen Zyeele on Monday, Air Marshal Pinehas emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two nations’ military forces.

Lt Gen Zyeele welcomed the Namibian delegation, noting that Zambia and Namibia have maintained strong defence relations over the years. He highlighted the various platforms through which their armed forces continue to work together, including regional security initiatives and military training programs.

According to a statement by Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala, Air Marshal Pinehas expressed deep appreciation for Zambia’s historical role in Namibia’s liberation struggle. He acknowledged Zambia’s unwavering support and contributions, which played a crucial role in securing Namibia’s independence.

The visit by the Namibian Defence Force Chief underscores the longstanding ties between the two nations, particularly in the area of security cooperation. Both countries continue to work closely within the framework of regional bodies such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC), where they contribute to peacekeeping and stability efforts.

As Zambia remains actively involved in diplomatic and peacekeeping missions across the region, military leaders hope that the ceasefire negotiations in Goma will mark a turning point in the DRC’s path to lasting peace.
