Chikondi Foundation Founder, Bishop John Mambo, has expressed strong support for the implementation of the Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security Act, calling it a vital step toward restoring order and accountability in the country’s digital space.
In a telephone interview with ZNBC News, Bishop Mambo commended the new legislation as timely and necessary, particularly in promoting responsible and uplifting engagement on social media platforms. He underscored the importance of using digital platforms to foster positivity, rather than becoming arenas for hate speech and offensive content.
“Now is the time to ensure that social media is used to spread positive messages rather than unpalatable language and hate speech,” Bishop Mambo said. He further noted that many of those opposing the cyber law are often individuals who engage in online abuse and misinformation, and are now coming to terms with the legal consequences of such actions.
Bishop Mambo’s remarks come at a time when the rise in online harassment, fake news, and cyberbullying has prompted growing calls for stronger regulation of digital platforms.
In support of the law, governance expert Ng’ande Mwanajiti also urged citizens with concerns to engage the proper legal and administrative avenues. He emphasized that laws evolve with the needs of society and must be respected by all.
“It is important to underline that the law responds to societal dynamics, as every good citizen must obey all laws equally,” Mwanajiti said.
The Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security Act is designed to enhance digital safety, combat cyberbullying, and curb the spread of harmful content online, marking a significant shift in how online spaces are regulated and safeguarded.
