Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commander, Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi II, has called on officers involved in the construction of the Chongwe Modern Market to uphold high-quality standards and showcase the service’s capabilities when contracted for such projects.
Lieutenant General Solochi emphasized that a well-executed market project in Chongwe would set a precedent for other constituencies to follow, potentially leading to more construction contracts for the Zambia National Service.
Progress and Features of the Market
Currently, the Chongwe Modern Market is 58 percent complete and is set to significantly enhance the area’s trading infrastructure. The market will accommodate over 2,000 stands and include essential facilities such as:
- A police post for security
- An ablution block
- Paved access roads
- A water reticulation system
- A designated car park
Funding and Government Support
According to a statement issued by Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala, the project is being funded through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, with additional financial support from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The Chongwe Modern Market is expected to boost local commerce and improve the working environment for traders, contributing to economic growth in the region. With ZNS at the helm of construction, the project serves as a testament to the service’s ability to deliver quality infrastructure projects that benefit communities nationwide.
