President Hakainde Hichilema participated in the virtual Extraordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government, convened to address the escalating conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The summit, held today, focused on urgent measures to restore peace and stability in the region.

Call for Immediate Cessation of Hostilities

The meeting underscored the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities in eastern DRC, where ongoing fighting has resulted in significant loss of life and the displacement of thousands of civilians. The SADC leaders expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace to the conflict-affected areas.
