Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, has officially opened the 24th session of the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Senior Officers Conference in Lusaka. The event aims to refine strategies and translate them into tangible outcomes in the fight against trans-organised crime.
In his address, Mr. Mwiimbu underscored the need for a comprehensive approach to tackling drug-related and money laundering crimes. He highlighted that this strategy would involve leveraging modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics, strengthening international collaborations, and promoting community-driven initiatives.
“The government’s commitment to supporting DEC is crucial in the fight against organised crime, which is not only a law enforcement concern but also a development issue,” he stated.
Meanwhile, DEC Director General Nason Banda emphasized the importance of the conference in addressing the institution’s challenges and adapting to evolving technologies in investigation and enforcement. He noted that the gathering would provide an opportunity for reflection, helping the commission reassess its operations, identify areas for improvement, and refine its strategies.
The conference is expected to enhance DEC’s effectiveness in combating organised crime, ensuring that law enforcement remains proactive in addressing emerging threats.
