The government has called for stronger collaboration between defence and security institutions in Zambia and Tanzania to combat transnational crimes effectively.

In a statement on Monday, Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Maambo Hamaundu highlighted the prevalence of human trafficking and smuggling in border areas and emphasized the need for coordinated strategies to address these issues.

The 3rd session of the Zambia–Tanzania Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) on Defence and Security commenced in Livingstone, where the two nations reaffirmed their commitment to tackling transnational threats.

Speaking during the official opening of the Officials Meeting for the Joint Permanent Commission, Hamaundu urged both countries to intensify efforts to curb illegal activities along their shared border.

The engagement underscores the importance of regional cooperation in enhancing border security and addressing the challenges posed by organized crime. The JPC continues to serve as a crucial platform for fostering bilateral security ties and ensuring stability in the region.
