Lusaka City Council Disburses K72 Million to Cash for Work Beneficiaries

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has announced that it has disbursed K72 million to beneficiaries of the Cash for Work programme since its inception in August 2024. The programme, aimed at providing temporary employment opportunities, has so far benefited 118,821 individuals across all seven constituencies in the city.

In a statement on Tuesday, LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba confirmed the payments, highlighting the council’s commitment to supporting livelihoods through the initiative. “The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has paid K72 million to Cash for Work beneficiaries since the inception of the programme in August 2024. To date, 118,821 beneficiaries have been paid for the work conducted from August to December 2024 across all seven constituencies,” Bulumba stated.

The disbursements have been allocated as follows:

  • Chawama Constituency: 15,539 beneficiaries
  • Kabwata Constituency: 14,000 beneficiaries
  • Kanyama Constituency: 21,457 beneficiaries
  • Lusaka Central Constituency: 5,616 beneficiaries
  • Other Constituencies: Yet to be disclosed

The Cash for Work programme was initiated to provide short-term employment opportunities to vulnerable communities while contributing to local infrastructure development and community service projects. The initiative has been widely praised for its impact in alleviating financial hardships for many households.

LCC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the administration of the programme. Stakeholders have been encouraged to continue participating in community development efforts to enhance the impact of the initiative.

The Council has further assured the public that additional funds will be disbursed in the coming months, with efforts being made to expand the programme’s reach and effectiveness.
