The government has reinforced the suspension of operations at Sino Metals, citing negligence on the part of the mining company. Authorities have emphasized that the decision is aimed at ensuring accountability and preventing further risks to public safety and the environment.

Speaking earlier, Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo assured citizens that the normal operation of water supply will resume on February 25, 2025. This follows concerns raised over disruptions caused by the incident linked to Sino Metals’ activities.

Meanwhile, Sino Metals Deputy Chief Executive Officer Martin Hamukusana expressed regret over the damage caused by the accident. He stated that the company acknowledges the impact on citizens and is actively working with relevant authorities to mitigate risks and restore confidence in its operations.

The government remains firm on its stance, underscoring the need for strict adherence to safety regulations in the mining sector to prevent future occurrences.
