Chawama Level One Hospital is set to become a well-cared-for facility over the next few years, as it emerges as a focal point in the political dynamics surrounding the seat of the Drug Enforcement Commission’s (DEC) most-wanted suspect, Tasila Lungu. As candidates vie for influence, one businessman from Chawama is stepping up with a significant contribution to the local community.

Nonde Sikasote, a youthful entrepreneur and dedicated UPND member who has served as the party’s provincial youth chairperson since 2008, is making a notable impact in his community. He has recently teamed up with UPND Chawama Constituency and ward officials to launch an anti-Tasila campaign, signaling his interest in pursuing a political seat in the area. However, Sikasote is proving his commitment to Chawama not just through words, but through action.

Flanked by local officials, Sikasote made a grand donation to Chawama Level One Hospital, handing over medical essentials valued at K95,000. The donation included five bales of blankets, three wheelchairs, two boxes of face masks, and one emergency bed. This gesture is a reflection of Sikasote’s deep commitment to the community he calls home.

Unlike many politicians who only appear during election cycles, Sikasote is a long-time resident of Chawama and has witnessed the struggles of ordinary residents firsthand. He expressed his dedication to remaining actively involved in the community, stating, “You cannot lead people from a distance. I live in Chawama, my church is here, my business is here, and I have employed Chawama residents because this is home, these are my family.”

Sikasote’s commitment to his community was further demonstrated when he took the time to visit the maternity ward at Chawama Level One Hospital, where he donated blankets to new mothers and contributed money for the purchase of chickens to support the hospital’s maternal care efforts. “Let’s help the President by managing the equipment donated. We should continue loving one another and it will be easy to live well,” Sikasote remarked.

Chawama Level One Hospital matron Lorraine Chikonka expressed her gratitude for the timely donation, calling it crucial for patient care. “This gesture comes at a time when we need it most. The stretchers and wheelchairs will help us ferry our clients efficiently. This is what leadership should be about,” Chikonka said.

Sikasote’s philanthropic efforts have resonated deeply with the residents of Chawama, positioning him as a candidate who truly understands the needs of his community and is actively working to make a difference. His actions reflect a brand of leadership that prioritizes tangible impact over political rhetoric, ensuring that Chawama’s residents feel heard and supported.
