Red Arrows FC forward Ricky Banda has completed a six-month loan move to Sudanese football powerhouse Al Merrikh SC. The move, announced by Red Arrows’ Public Relations and Media Liaison Officer Misheck Kalembwe, is seen as a strategic step to bolster the player’s career in a competitive international environment.

“This move presents an exciting opportunity for Ricky Banda to gain valuable exposure and further his development in a competitive environment,” said Major Kalembwe, emphasizing the club’s commitment to nurturing talent and advancing the interests of its players.

A Rising Star’s Journey

Banda joined Red Arrows in the 2021/2022 season on loan from National League side Jumulo FC before making his permanent transfer to the club in 2024. Since then, the prolific forward has been a vital part of the team’s success.

In his debut season at Nkoloma Stadium, Banda made an immediate impact by winning the MTN Super League title, the ABSA Cup silver medal, and the Charity Shield. His exceptional performances also earned him the MTN Super League Golden Boot and Player of the Season honors in the 2021/22 season.

Over the last three seasons, Banda has continued to shine, helping Red Arrows secure two MTN Super League titles, one ABSA Cup, and two Charity Shields. He was also instrumental in the team’s historic victory at the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

A Legacy of Excellence

Ricky Banda’s loan move to Al Merrikh SC marks a significant milestone in his career and is a continuation of Red Arrows’ tradition of producing talent capable of excelling on the international stage. He follows in the footsteps of 2004 MTN Super League title winner Zachariah Simukonda, who also joined Al Merrikh SC during his career.

“Red Arrows Football Club wishes Ricky Banda the best of luck during his time at Al Merrikh SC and believes this loan move will contribute positively to his career progression,” Maj. Kalembwe added, expressing confidence in Banda’s ability to make an impact in Sudan.

A New Chapter

For Banda, this move presents a unique opportunity to test his skills in a different league, gain international experience, and further his football development. His achievements with Red Arrows have already solidified his reputation as one of Zambia’s brightest football talents, and this loan move is expected to propel his career to new heights.

With the Sudanese league offering a competitive platform and Al Merrikh SC’s strong presence in African club football, all eyes will be on Ricky Banda as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.

As Zambian football fans bid him farewell, they will undoubtedly watch closely, hoping to see him continue to excel and bring pride to the nation on the international stage.
