Under the forward-thinking leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the Government of Zambia is propelling Kawambwa Tea to unprecedented heights. The 100-percent Government-owned enterprise is now a shining example of how state-owned companies can thrive with proper support and strategic vision.

Economic Success

Kawambwa Tea has become a key player in Zambia’s economic growth, generating approximately 1 million U.S. dollars annually from exports. Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, praised the company’s success, describing it as a model of effective government enterprise management.

Employment and Rural Empowerment

The company’s impact extends beyond revenue generation. Employing over 500 people, Kawambwa Tea is driving job creation and empowering rural communities. Mr. Ngoma emphasized the importance of supporting local industries, urging Zambians to rally behind the Buy Zambia Campaign by purchasing locally produced goods, including Kawambwa Tea.

Export Focus

According to Kawambwa Tea’s Chief Financial Officer, Tachila Zulu, 80 percent of the company’s exports consist of bulk tea supplied to industries such as breweries, while 20 percent is packaged tea. The company’s export strategy underscores its adaptability and commitment to meeting diverse market demands.

Expansion Plans

Kawambwa Tea has ambitious plans to expand its production area from 423 hectares to 1,000 hectares, significantly boosting its output capacity. The Government has pledged full support for these expansion efforts, recognizing their potential to stimulate rural development and curb urban migration.

A Testament to Visionary Leadership

President Hichilema’s administration continues to prioritize economic transformation through revitalized state-owned enterprises and job creation. Kawambwa Tea stands as a testament to the effectiveness of these policies, demonstrating how state support can unlock the potential of local industries.

As Zambia charts a path toward sustainable development, Kawambwa Tea serves as an inspiring example of how strategic investments in agriculture and rural industries can drive national growth and empower communities.
