Former Kabushi Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo, has found himself in hot water after being reported to the Woodlands Police Station by Zambezi East MP Brian Kambita. The allegations, which surfaced on October 15, 2024, claim that Lusambo obtained K850,000 under false pretenses in a failed property transaction.
According to the complaint, Lusambo had promised to sell Kambita a four-bedroom house located in the Silverest area of Lusaka, boasting modern fittings. The deal soured when Kambita paid Lusambo in two installments—K400,000 in August and K450,000 in September—but later discovered that the property might be embroiled in an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which is hindering its legal sale.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the allegations, stating that Kambita’s concerns were rooted in a series of legal and ethical questions surrounding Lusambo’s property dealings. This situation is particularly troubling given Lusambo’s already fraught legal history, which includes multiple allegations of financial misconduct and irregular property acquisitions.
Earlier in 2024, Lusambo was acquitted of witness tampering charges, but he is still awaiting verdicts on several other cases involving suspected financial crimes and unaccounted wealth. Notably, some of these assets, including those located in Silverest, have previously been flagged by the ACC for investigation, raising further alarm about Lusambo’s financial dealings.
The unfolding drama not only highlights the challenges Kambita faces in securing his investment but also casts a long shadow over Lusambo’s political career. His ongoing issues with the ACC, along with inquiries into his and his spouse Nancy Lusambo’s financial activities, suggest a pattern of dubious transactions that could have serious repercussions.
As the situation develops, it underscores the broader concerns regarding illicit property deals and accountability within political circles. The allegations against Lusambo may have significant implications not only for his future but also for the integrity of the political system in Zambia.
