10 things you didn’t know about Maiko Zulu

  1. Maiko is a songwriter, musician and producer.
  2. His songs have included a Mad president, a song which the state-owned TV Broadcaster refused to play on their station Maiko was born in Livingstone, Zambia.
  3. He grew up on his family-owned farm.
  4. Maiko later moved to Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia at the age of six.
  5. St. Michael was a stage name he entered the music industry with, a name he later changed.
  6. According to the Times of Zambia newspaper interview with Zulu, Zulu said that he changed his name “to maintain his African origin hence, adoption of the local spelling of Maiko”
  7. He is credited for promoting human rights in Zambia.
  8. Maiko received an award for this work from the International Labour Organization.
  9. He also speaks on behalf of the poor.
  10. Zulu is also an outspoken critic of politicians
